BLOCK WEEK- Day 5

Fine Motor Skills (Taping) & Thankful writing continuation

Purpose: Activity extensions for thankful theme and name writing

  • To finish their bags the children must do two things: the first is using the cards with their names that they made earlier in the year, they must organize their letters in the correct order of their names. They will then tape (with the help of myself) their letters to the inside of their bags.

  • Second, they are  going to do an extension from Monday with the “I am thankful for…” except, they must write on their own and think of their own individual reaons for why they are thankful, this time having more of an idea of the context. When the children are finished writing on their own, their responses, we are going to put their papers into their nature bags, with their names taped on so that the bags are ready to go home

  • The children were pretty skilled at matching their own name, it was visible that for some the name cards helped more, but they knew which resources they needed to complete the activity and they used them

  • The taping was particularly challenging for them, most were taping on the wrong side even after several tries/demonstrations. Maybe next time we could have tape already cut to make the process a little easier. Or have an example that is stationary for the children to refer to

  • For the writing, I found the children were much more understanding of what it means to be thankful for something near/on thanksgiving and that helped think of many more answers to the question itself. It was lovely to see everybody’s different and unique responses as they wrote their answers.

  • The adaptations included providing the name cards for reference, and writing in highlighter first for the children to write over the words
