Hand Prints

Purpose:

  • As I have mentioned in my previous activity plans, my teacher and I have observed that the children enjoy sensory activities and so the parent council asked our class to create thank you cards. Therefore, we thought the hand painting was a good experience to have the children experience. Therefore, we introduced the hand painting to the children especially the JKs that may not have had that experience before.

  • The curriculum objective that it is the aim/purpose for this activity is to enhance the children’s sensory experiences and increase vocabulary when experiencing sensory activities.

    Reflection

  • The children really enjoyed the sensory aspects of this activity! I could see on their faces that they were enjoying the feelings and really engaging emotionally into the feeling of the paint on their hands.

  • It was also a great opportunity to introduce the vocabulary and getting children to express their experience and what they were feeling. I could read it on their faces, but it was about getting them to explain their experiences through words.

  • One modification that I used during the activity was using construction in the middle of the paper to prevent children from putting their hand prints there. We are putting a card in the middle of the paper and so the paper was a restriction/boundary. So the children had to remember the rule to not put paint in that area.

  • Since the children enjoyed the sensory of this activity I will keep this in mind when there is an area of curriculum that the children need to work on. This way we can use sensory to keep them focused and intrigued on the task they have to learn.

  • Some children were very hesitant as well to use the sensory on their hands because they said they tried it before and didn’t like it. However they tried it and it turned out they actually liked the experience! So that was another positive I noticed.

Administrative Task
Haunted House & ABC List

Purpose:

The children have been really interested in Halloween, specifically haunted houses. Therefore, children wanted to work on adding materials to decorating their haunted house. Also I went to the library and found a Halloween book that went through all the ABCs associating vocabulary with Halloween, and I started a list so that the children and I can make our own list.

Reflection:

  • The children loved making their own haunted house

  • They were independent and engaged when they were planning what they were going to make

  • They had their visions and ideas and were good at making them and adding them to the house.

  • We have a vocabulary list in the class with many Halloween words that the children referenced when they labelled their art work contributions to the house.

  • The children were writing a lot and were independent in doing so.

  • This was a great activity in terms of working together socially and in teams. Children were working together and were communicating while creating. They were also working independently and determinately.

  • Overall, it was a great experience to witness, and see how the children were able to work together and on their own to make their vision happen.
