Why Kindergarten Classrooms need ECE Curriculum

Fine motor is such an important part of the lives of kindergarten students and I feel that, that is not being recognized enough! These students are in school now, and they have a lot to learn like the alphabet, their numbers, different subjects and topics and topics of their interest. BUT, it is just as important to remember to keep the early childhood education prevalent in the classroom as these children as young as 3 years old are transitioning into the school system.

Fine motor skills and exploration are so important for children to be able to explore activities, use their own hands to navigate and perform individual tasks around the classroom. Most importantly, it is a great way to get children to gain strength when holding their pencil for writing. With that confidence in holding the pencil, students can grow and develop in a much wider array, having that skill under their belt.

Therefore, it is important for the DECE's in the classrooms to bring forth their knowledge and bring in those "daycare" activities where the children can practice their foundational skills. These students are still young and need these foundational activities to develop those skills needed for SK and for the rest of their career in grade school.

Here are some web sources for ideas for children to improve fine motor skills:
