The Eco Teams in schools, are becoming very prevalent as I am working through different placements and I am noticing this increased participation from this team. Is there a difference occurring? What is this team doing for the schools?
This team brings information to students about different areas of "going green" such as introducing the three R's and bringing to students' attention what their role in helping the environment is. For example, this includes events such as "ban the bottle" and "litter less lunches". Both these events teach students to bring reusable water bottles and lunches that are all in reusable containers to limit waste production and reduce the garbage that is going to our landfills.
All these information sessions, announcements, presentations and audits are bringing the awareness to classrooms, teachers and students on their role as a school to be eco friendly.
Personally, I can say that I have learnt quite a lot myself from working with the eco team especially around the respects of recycling and how to teach my future class and be involved in future eco teams!
