I hear the "it's hard to keep their attention, they're young"! This is at times true and at times not true when it comes to working with kids. All children have their learning styles and different preferences when it comes to focusing but if children are engaged and actively participating, they are focused and they are absorbing.
Sensory is a great way for children to get interested and stay attuned to the activity and the subject they have encountered. In my previous posts I talked about the old fashioned sitting and practicing the alphabet. A great way for children to not only associate letters with practice with pencil and paper is to give different options such as writing in sand and shaving cream. This is an entirely new experience for children that engages their senses and brings them entirely into what they are doing. This provides for seeing what they learn off of the paper and solidifies their new knowledge in a fun and exciting way!
This brings back what I mentioned in my previous blog about ECEs being an important aspect in the classroom... here's another reason why ! :)
